My Current Watchlist

Last week Sofia over at Film Flare posted something similar to what I’ve been wanting to share with you guys for quite some time now but I wasn’t sure how exactly it was going to play out. Inspired and fueled by Sofia’s post, I set out to gather all my to watch movies from all possible lists that I’ve accumulated over the years: IMDb, Letterboxd, those twelve notebooks I have lying around and that bottomless corner of my brain where I collect useless information. Since there’s an endless amount of movies I still need to watch, I felt it was necessary to limit myself to 30 of my most prominent, stand out watchlist movies. This could also be classified as my shame list.

Quick note before the list action starts, this is in random order and some of these movies have fallen into the category of I’ve seen glimpses of it as a kid but can’t really say I’ve watched it. So it does feel very extensive and filled with big big movies that every movie blogger should have seen by now but I’ve added the half-watched ones here as well so it’s not that bad. But it’s still bad. Very bad. And yes, feel free to use curse words in the comments, I deserve them!

  3. You have a lot of good movies to catch up with. I have not seen Mr. Nobody, Into the Wild or Pearl Harbor. I may have to give those ones a peak this week

    I have so many things I have yet to see that I feel shamed into watching lol

    1. The Matrix and Mulholland Drive are both the ones I mentioned being the kind of movies I’ve seen but can’t really recall seeing them from start to finish. Like, I know I’ve seen the beginning of The Matrix and a vaguely remember watching MD with my mom but my childhood is all hazy when it comes to so many movies of that time period.

  6. It’s the same thing with me and The Matrix. I’ve seen parts when I was young and even saw the third part in a theater but I have to watch it properly.
    You have a pretty good list. You shouldn’t feel ashamed for having these Blind Spots. Just take it easy. It’s also important to not put pressure on yourself to see them when you don’t feel like doing it because you will not enjoy them. I’m talking from personal experience.
    In my opinion No Country for Old Men, Mulholland Drive, Taxi Driver,, Goodfellas, 2001, Annie Hall, The Shining and Citizen Kane are incredible, absolutely fantastic films. Some of my favorites.
    I don’t know what you will think of Pearl Harbor. It’s not regarded as a good film. I found it very long and cheesy and with terrible dialogue. But it is an experience. It does have an epic feeling.

    1. Thanks for the feedback and the recommendations! I’ll certainly take it into consideration when I’m feeling nostalgic and brave enough to tackle this list. I might start soon, it feels like I can do this now.. soon.. I mean.. I really should.

  7. The only films in that list I haven’t seen are Mr. Nobody and Schindler’s List. Pearl Harbor is the one I would avoid. To me, it’s the worst film ever made.

      1. I would compare the film to a bad history paper for history class. Full of inaccuracies and lots of dramatic liberties that were really unbelievable. That’s just one of many things about the film that I loathe about and why I loathe Michael Bay.

  8. Except for Monsters Ball I’ve seen all that’s on your last. Mr. Nobody is in my top 3 of all time favorites so I’m happy to see it on your list

  9. Holy hell, are you in for a treat. The Shining, Rosemary’s Baby, The Graduate, 2001, and There Will Be Blood are definitely the standout’s for me. I hope you enjoy all these beautiful films!

  10. Looks like you have a lot of good movies to watch! Hope you have fun! Letterboxd has become my #1 listmaker for movies I’d like to watch this fall before Halloween. *crossing fingers* I get to some of them! 🙂

  11. You’ve got some of favourite movies of all time there! Like The Matrix, 2001, There Will Be Blood, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, Before Sunrise, The Shining… this makes me feel a thousand times better about my list of shame, haha!

    I really need to rewatch The Machinist. I remember I liked it, but I was quite young, so. Either way Bale is incredible in it, as always. Will you be writing about the films? Hoping you do! 😀

    1. I’ve partly seen The Matrix but clearly, I don’t remember enough to consider it watched.

      I’ve given it a thought, but I don’t know, I’m now, after a week long holiday, SOOOOOO behind with my writing that answering comments to get back into the swing of things, seems like the only way right now. 😀

    1. Envious? Maybe. I have a lot of first time watches for movies people love and sometimes I hope I could go back in time and watch a movie for the first time. So I get your envy.

    Before Sunrise
    Goodfellas
    The Graduate
    No Country for Old Men
    and
    Rosemary’s Baby

    1. Before Sunrise is definitely the one I gravitate the most towards anyway but the rest… so depends on my mood and that is so tricky sometimes. Who am I kidding. All the time. 😀

  17. Oh my, this reminds me I still need to see The Machinist!! Ahah, glad I’m not the only one who hasn’t seen 2001 and Taxi Driver. I do love Casablanca though, saw that on the big screen as part of AMC re-release and I’m so glad I did!

    1. I would love to see some of these movies on a big screen.. god damn it, why is my country so not treating me right. Oh well, at least I have a big TV. 😀

  18. Ahh, I can’t curse you because I’ve seen only six of them on your list! I’m in the same boat, considering there are some GREAT movies out there that every blogger ought to see but just hasn’t yet. If you don’t mind, I might write a post like this myself just to encourage me to watch them with the accountability of posting it public!

  19. Love this idea. You’ve listed some fantastic movies here (and some I need to catch up on too). Annie Hall, Take Shelter, Royal Tenenbaums and Taxi Driver are some of my favourites – I hope you enjoy them!

  24. I just saw this post after seeing it mentioned over at Film Grimoire. A really cool idea, I have a few that I need to see that I’ve never watched. I think you’ll have a great time going through your list though!
