My Top 5 Favorite Netflix Original Shows

In 2013, Netflix premiered its first original TV series House of Cards, which was just the beginning for this global movie and TV-show provider. In March this year, Netflix released Flaked, its 20th original series not including the animated and kids shows. Though I haven’t seen all of them, I have seen just enough to compile a this top 5 list of my favorite Netflix original shows.

I hereby apologize for not including Orange is the New Black, because I’m still somewhere in the middle of season 1 and I’ve been stuck there for almost 3 years.

5: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

This, a little bit out of the box comedy, starring Ellie Kemper was a breath of fresh year when it came out last year. Filled with outrageous ideas, jokes and characters, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt stands out from all the comedies out there just with its theme song alone.

4: House of Cards, Season 1

I had to include House of Cards in my list, even though I haven’t finished watching season 2 yet. It was a sort of a  phenomena when it came out, it was epic and it was thrilling! Kevin Spacey delivers a character that is definitely a stand out from the crowd, and even though the plot got a little too crazy in the middle of season 2, I’m sure I’ll catch up with this show soon enough.

3: Grace and Frankie

Another great comedy from Netflix is Grace and Frankie, which stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. Its premise is simple yet hilarious, two best friends come out to their wives as gay. Everything that follows is hilarious and its the chemistry between the two women that sets this show apart from others.

2: Sense8

This critically praised supernatural show about mental-connection between people living in various parts of the world is great! Its second season was highly unlikely because for some reason the numbers weren’t great but Sense8 will return, thank god! With various nationalities, and with various filming locations, Sense8 is special and I hope it will continue to be that for more than 2 seasons.

1: Marvel’s Daredevil

There was not much debate whether I should put Daredevil in the first slot or not. Daredevil is televisions wonder-child, with its great visual appeal and attention to detail. Scene after scene, Daredevil proved that fighting is not only amazing in big movies but also big TV shows. And if you had any doubts, no worries, this show is a lot better than Ben Affleck’s Daredevil, trust me!

  1. I do need to start watching Sens 8 and will do so as soon as iM done with House of Cards. Daredevil is great and if you liked that I do recomend Jessica Jones

    1. I’ve seen it and I’m not completely excited about it. I don’t know. I’ve had discussions about not liking Jessica Jones before and I still don’t really understand why I don’t have as much love for it as for Daredevil.

    1. I’m the opposite and I’m pretty much the only one I think that prefers Daredevil over Jessica Jones. There’s just something I don’t like about JJ, and it’s weird because I’m all for a strong female lead character but I guess the plot and the way it was done, for me, was not as sleek and effective as I hoped for.

    1. I’m the other way around and I still think about the fact that I didn’t love JJ as much as something weird.. I don’t know. But Daredevil, hell yeah!

  2. Really need to give Daredevil and Kimmy Schmidt a chance. I sorta abandoned House of Cards after season two. Nice list!

  3. The only Netflix shows I watch are Daredevil and Jessica Jones, and I agree with Daredevil being #1. That show is excellent. It’s a shame Jessica Jones couldn’t match it.

  4. Oy I should watch Daredevil then.

If you think HoC season 2 is crazy… omg, just wait for season 3. That’s insane. I’ve not even dared to start S4 yet omg.

    1. I haven’t watched the trailer yet… I hope it is almost as good. I doubt that they can have the same effect twice because the first season was a lot about discovering new things..
