Last year, in 2014, I watched 132 movies, out of which only 13 had been repeated experiences with already familiar movies. That means I watched 119 new stories, had 119 possibilities to see something completely different, had god knows how many scenes times 119 chances to be blown away, I was presented main characters in 119 ways but I only wrote 24 reviews.

The never ending discussion around Boyhood has finally reached a point where I simply can’t hold it in anymore. And no, this post won’t be on how it doesn’t deserve awards and it won’t be about bashing it because it’s overrated – this Coffee Talk is about another interesting thought that manifested while reading Elina’s take on Whiplash. She wrote: “…if I had to choose between Boyhood or any of the four other films (Whiplash, Foxcatcher, Nightcrawler, Gone Girl), I’d choose Boyhood in a heartbeat. It made me feel nice and fuzzy inside and was a fantastic watch.” By throwing no shade nor criticism towards Elina, I just want to express the fact that I have a completely different understanding of a fantastic watch and it’s receiving completely opposite feelings to nice and fuzzy.

Took me forever but it’s finally here, the list of my Top 15 favorite movies from 2014! As you know, I was struggling with it, I was certain some movies just had to be on it before I finished it. Then, I had to change 10 to 15, and this is the end result to hours and hours of brain cracking. Eventually, I also decided on a different favorite movie of 2014 than I had originally thought. In other words, this list is as full of surprises for me as it might be for you!
