Palo Alto (2013)

palo alto

I sense a spoiler, or two.

Ironically, being all grown up, I still think coming of age movies speak to me more than any other kind of stories being told on screen. Some of these teen dramas really resignate in me for weeks, months, years even (The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Fish Tank, The Breakfast Club), and others simply fall into the depth of all those 1000+ movies I’ve seen over the years. I have a feeling Palo Alto is one of those movies that has the potential, but might be gradually forgotten instead.

Veronica Mars (2014)

veronica mars movie reviewFew spoilers ahead!

As promised on Monday, this Veronica Mars week will end with the not-so-positive movie review and hopefully by now all of you hardcore Marshmallows understand that this review I’m about to write doesn’t come lightly to me. I loved the series, I adore Kristen Bell and I’m super happy about the fact that Rob Thomas made this movie with the fans and for the fans but all of that aside, Veronica Mars (Bell) just didn’t have that kick she had 10 years ago!

This Is the End (2013)

This is the End

This post features spoilers hence avoid this post if you haven’t seen the movie but by now, I assume you have so just keep reading – just keep reading.

I knew I wanted to see This Is the End in the cinema right after I saw its home video styled teaser trailer featuring James Franco and Seth Rogen hiding in the basement. Then the trailer came out and made me even more thrilled about this Summer’s big block buster comedy featuring the end of the world. So it’s fair to say that I was very hyped up about this movie but as per protocol, that exhilarating feeling I had before seeing This Is the End was eventually its biggest downfall.

Spring Breakers (2013)

Spring Breakers

This post is designed towards giving away too much information – putting it simply, spoilers.

Everything you’d know before watching Spring Breakers will most likely work against it. The over hyped sexual context, the lack of clothes, the Disney graduates and last but not least, the egoistic James Franco. Yet, Harmony Korine manages to create a harmonized multidimensional story that actually feels authentic if you stop watching 10 minutes before the actual end.

Oz the Great and Powerful (2013)

Oz the Great and Powerful

As a classic, Wizard of Oz is still a movie I haven’t seen but watching it’s prequel seemed sill like a splendid idea at first. As it turned out, it was not delivering as powerfully as one would expect. There were various problems, some more related to the entire plot of the movie but most of the issues were caused by the lack of power behind the acting, in addition, the strong visuals  ( cause I didn’t care for 3D) couldn’t salvage the movie to a point of greatness or anything good to be totally honest.
