CB: Rewind << January & Monthly Awards

Last week, when I was back to work and had almost no time to prepare for this week’s post, I had a small panic in regards to the first Commercial Break of February. But then it hit me (thanks to Sofia’s monthly recap), that I could just look back at my very successful January, with all its 23 posts (a record of the last few years on this blog), and wrap it up nicely before I really kick my birthday month into gear.

Laggies (2014)

laggies

There’s a certain likability to Keira Knightley that I’ve encountered numerous times in her period films, but not so much when the plot is happening in the present because she kept doing period films! Atonement, Pride & Prejudice, Pirates of the Caribbean to name a few up until the past few years when she was finally allowed into the 21st century with Seeking a Friend at the End of the World, Begin Again and now, Laggies.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014)

jack ryan

As far as I can remember, the 2014 movie featuring the intelligent Jack Ryan (Chris Pine), is my first encounter with this rather famous CIA operative who has been in many movies before Shadow Recruit. Taking this into account, my review of the newest addition to the list of films featuring this character, created by Tom Clancy, is going to be based solely on the movie itself: and it ain’t as bright as Chris Pine’s blue eyes.

400th blog post celebration

400 might not be an important number to some but for me it actually is somewhat special. I have been waiting for it for quite some time now actually, the big round number of 400. Seeing the number getting closer and closer just made me realize that I’m almost at 500, then, soon I will be a 1000 and then.. I don’t know. Okay, I might me exaggerating because getting to 400 has taken me almost three years. On this rate, it will take me forever to get there but I’m ready for the ride, it’s been so fun so far! As the number got closer, I thought why not celebrate it with something special since I haven’t done it with my other hundred posts. Plus, I had a lot of time with all my school work, deadlines, additional obligations and an up-coming trip… Kidding but I still had a lot of fun putting the alphabet together, had some issues with couple of letters because some didn’t have enough options, some had too many. To be fair, a lot of my favorites were left out but overall, I think it worked out well. It consists of movies, directors, actors and actresses who’s lives revolve around movies.

Trailer for Anna Karenina looks amazing

Anna Karenina, written by Tolstoy, was declared the greatest novel ever written by the Time’s poll done in 2007, so it was just a matter of time for Joe Wright to take on Anna. I should put Wright into my list of directors, since he did one of my favorites Pride & Prejudice, but I wasn’t a big fan of his Atonement that followed (too bad for Wright). But Anna Karenina could bring him back to my life because it seems remarkable from what I can tell based on the trailer. The movie has a book like story telling with the stop motion scenes and walking from one scenery to another. Having Keira Knightley as Anna, Jude Law as Aleksei Karenin and Aaron Johnson as the charming Vronsky, everything is set out perfectly for Anna Karenina to be the dazzling costume drama of 2012.

Those who do not know, I am a fan of historical costume dramas such as Pride & Prejudice, The Duchess and Marie Antoinette, because I love that time with its rules of conduct and its glamorous fashion. Also, I think Knightley suits these types of roles perfectly and she might as well only stick with what she is well suited for. I can’t really imagine her in any other time than the past, she feels like from the 18 and 19 century so I am happy that Wright keeps working with her while making these types of films.

Anna Karenina is set to premiere on the 9th of November.
