It is time for the most important lists of 2016, the two lists that matter the most: the list of best books and best movies I read and saw last year! And though it’s always hard to put things in a certain perspective, it’s even harder to put them in an order, but I’ve done this for many years and I think I’ve got it! So despite my fears and the slow burning panic that started somewhere in the middle of November, these lists took me less time than I had planned.. which is not to say that they didn’t take more than an hour, because they did but it was all for a good cause!
We start off the year with an Oscar race that has our hearts beating erratically because this might be Leonardo DiCaprio’s year, and it was. He won, he got that Oscar, he held that Oscar, he took that Oscar with him to show off to his supermodels and polish on his yacht while the sun cast golden streaks of light onto Leo’s face. But as soon as the blockbuster movies started to roll in, as soon as the superheros began to gather, Leo was slowly forgotten.
I want to curl up into a ball and rock myself back and worth until I’m rid of these feelings. I want to hug Casey Affleck, and slap him at the same time, because he managed to break me in a way that I wasn’t expecting to break. I want to not think about the feelings, the hurt, the subtle reveal of heartache, because every time I do, I manage to break myself again.
So… I missed last week’s Commercial Break because I had things to do, and movies to see! That’s right, I finally managed to drag myself to the cinema, and watched two movies in one day! I shall thank the Black Nights Film Festival for finally breaking the two month dry spell in my movie-going, but mostly, I have myself to thank for, for being able to drag myself out of the apartment for once! Thank you, me, for looking out for me!
In the beginning of the year, I shared a two part post highlighting 40 movies of this year that I caught my eye, and now, my list has significantly narrowed. Not only have I lost interest towards some of these movies, but due to my own schedule, I know I can’t manage to see all of them. So, I looked at that list, and added to that list, and finally realized that I need to see these following movies before the end of this year!
